About Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a highly potent treatment for pain. It works by stimulating the flow of qi in the area being treated.

According to the theory of Traditional Eastern Medicine, pain is caused by an obstruction in the flow of qi. Thus, by stimulating the qi of a specific area in pain, we are able to relieve the pain. In Western terminology, we can say that acupuncture treatment raises endorphin levels and diminishes the nerve system’s pain response.

Although scientific researches are still in the process of fully explaining the mechanism behind acupuncture, qi treatments, and other alternative pain treatment methods, there are vast number of studies proving the effectiveness of acupuncture treatment for symptoms of acute and chronic pain.

As most patients who have done acupuncture and acupressure treatments for – low back, neck, and shoulder pain, as well as migraines, and chronic headaches – have experienced, it is a highly effective and safe way of treating pain compared to conventional pain therapies like consuming painkillers, NSAIDS, and analgesics.

Acupuncture needles can reach directly into the specific muscle fiber that has formed a knot – a trigger point (TrP) – which is the cause for pain, according to trigger point acupuncture style. In trigger point acupuncture treatment, also known as muscle acupuncture, we use extremely thin needles ( 33G / 0.18mm disposable needles) that are 10 times thinner than the usual injection needle, directly into the knotted muscle fiber to impair the trigger point.  Then the impaired trigger point turns into an inflammatory recovery mode and works on removing the knotted tension from the muscle in pain.

Acupuncture is a superior treatment for pain compared to conventional painkillers and analgesics since it stimulates the healing process while fundamentally treating pain. Also conventional medicines require a continual increase of dosage to maintain a desired effect but acupuncture can be done repeatedly if necessary without the toxicity of the medication.
