About Eczema

Eczema, also known as dermatitis, is an inflammation of the upper layers of the skin.  And there are various types of eczema; nummular eczema, dyshidrotic eczema, atopic dermatitis (AD), seborrheic dermatitis, hives, cradle cap, scaly skin, hands eczema (dyshidrotic eczema or pompholyx), infant eczema, and pruritus.

Conventionally, eczema is seen as an untreatable autoimmune disease and immunosuppression drugs such as steroid creams are prescribed.  However, they do not cure eczema and only provide limited relief.

Symptoms of Eczema

Common symptoms of eczema include, skin swelling, itchiness of red, flaky, dry skin, and rashes.  But scratching and rubbing irritates the skin even more and intensifies the itching.  And the symptoms typically appear on elbows, back of knees, and the face, but in severe cases, they may cover almost entire body.

Treating Eczema

We treat eczema based on Traditional Eastern Medicine methodology.  Rather than treating it  as a mere skin disease, we approach it as a manifestation of an imbalance between the inner body and the outer environment.

The main cause for this imbalance is due to excessive heat that has been accumulated inside the body, which should have been released naturally through the regulatory systems of perspiration, blood circulation, and respiration.  And when these functions are compromised, the surplus heat will force its way out the closest exit – our skin.  And such forceful exit will surely damage the skin tissues and bring on inflammation and cause rash and itchiness.

Therefore, we treat eczema by helping the excessive inner heat exit the body in a more regulated and less damaging way.  We use acupuncture, herbal medicine, Skin Herbal Detox Bath Therapy, and other modalities to achieve this goal—to help the body remove pathologic heat and toxins and to find balance.

Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine is a natural remedy to enhance functions of the body and promote balance. It helps to invigorate the body’s energy and is highly effective in removing accumulated toxins and regulating the flow of blood and fluids.

Skin Herbal Detox Bath Therapy

Our Skin Herbal Detox Bath Therapy is prescribed to treat various skin conditions.  It helps to gently release pathologic heat out of the body to the surface of the skin and brings immediate relief and assists in restoring damaged skin.
